Armando Resendex "Altar" 8x10 Painting
Painting on 8x10 inch wood panel
Armando Resendez makes paintings, sculptures, and drawings. He often draws influence from the macabre, dance and performance, as well as religious symbols and pagan mythology. Resendez was born and raised in San Diego, and has lived in Oakland for the last decade.
An altar is a site for remembrance, where the sacred can be brought into the everyday. It is also a place that holds, and displays, aspirations. The figures in “Altar” are a parade of masked dancers. Each figure is playing a different role inspired by folklore—roles which they aspire to embody. I want to give people the feeling of taking a slow breath at an altar.
