Tara Gonzalez "Holy Daze"
Mixed Media on 10×10 inch wood art panel
My piece “Holy Daze” is part of an ongoing theme of reimagining women or sometimes animals as modern day saints. In these pieces the juxtaposition of sacred adornments(using mixed-media collage with oil painting) and modern expression invites reflection of faith, identity, and culture in contemporary life. The woman is decorated as a symbol of reverence yet imbued with a sense of detached indifference. Her bored expression, framed by heart-shaped sunglasses, challenges the conventional saintly narrative, blending reverence with rebellion.
