Mary Kalin-Casey - "July"
Acrylic on 10 ×10 inch wood art panel- ships May 1st
My recent work explores themes of isolation and introspection, focusing on individuals alone in their own homes in a moment of reflection. I don’t consider my work portraiture, in that it isn’t required to be a specific likeness. Instead, I am concerned with how lighting and posture can evoke mood or a frame of mind. “July” was an interesting challenge for me, as the subject was cast in San Francisco’s subtle, gray-fogged light, rather than the high-contrast illumination I usually choose.
