Ashley Sinclair - "Our Seas"
Oil on canvas, fishing line, fish hooks. Ships May 1st
Now more than ever, we are feeling the effects of Climate Change. Our industrial environment is filled with news and articles describing the devastating percentage losses of our marine ecosystems, and it’s devastating. Because of this, I chose to highlight the beauty and joy when I am scuba diving with sharks, while integrating symbols of the many challenges our sharks face. The reference photos used in this work came directly from my diving experience with sharks, and the experience of documenting my time with them. Scuba diving and shark conservation and art are my passions in life and incorporating both worlds into my art practice is important to me. This work serves as a stepping stone to a larger body of work, wherein I’m hoping to be the voice of our fragile marine ecosystems.
